TAG Begins Installation of New Customs and Border Protection Terminal

Dulles, Virginia – November 13, 2008

Technology Advancement Group, Inc. (TAG) has begun installation of servers and displays for Customs and Border Protection (CBP). TAG will ultimately equip all of the traffic lane checkpoints across every U.S. border. This equipment enables officers to use a variety of biometric tools, such as finger print scanners, license plate readers, and passport readers, when implementing the new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI).

The first installation has begun at the San Ysidro border, located between San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico. San Ysidro is the world’s busiest land point-of-entry, supporting 24 northbound vehicle lanes in the United States and six southbound lanes into Mexico. Each day, this land port serves up to 50,000 northbound vehicles and 25,000 northbound pedestrians.

The system consists of a rugged 19” display with touchscreen and a small rugged server with a powerful Intel-based processor. The suite was designed with the border agent’s job in mind, making it easier for them to secure our border in harsh, diverse environments. This equipment meets numerous environmental and rugged requirements to ensure the reliable border security, whether it’s in Alaska in the winter or Texas in the summer.

The display, dubbed the LK-0100-19SW, features state-of-the-art touchscreen technology with optimal viewing in all lighting conditions, including direct sunlight. TAG sealed and coated the display for reduced glare. The LK-0100-19SW provides an intuitive and robust terminal for security personnel, and is ideal for physical security and/or check point applications. With its water-tight connectors, the touchscreen display allows for high speed peripherals like retinal scanners, passport readers, USB video feeds, etc. This drip proof, water-resistant display has a removable VESA Mounting Base for easy wall mounting or swing arm mounting.

The server, or the SV-0100-THS, is a rugged and compact chassis featuring the latest in Intel® technology, a powerful 2.0GHz Intel® Core™ Duo processor. This machine’s chassis (4” high) can fit into tight spaces (i.e. on or under a desk, on a dashboard, in a vehicle, etc.) maximizing its functional use. Weighing only 7.1lbs, the SV-0100-THS has unlimited portability options that re-defines value for mobile computing. It is built with a SATA hard drive and expandable memory up to 4GB. It is designed to meet (O) 0°C to 55°C and (N) -40°C to 70°C to stand up against the harshest of environments.
